ROWAN LEGAL, one of the largest Czech law firms, announced a significant staff addition at the beginning of the year. Jan Frey (40), who is one of the leading domestic experts in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), will be joining the legal team from February 2022. The firm’s partners believe that thanks to Frey’s reputation and expertise, ROWAN LEGAL will be able to expand this category of legal services even further. Frey takes up this new position after ten years in management positions at HAVEL & PARTNERS and a career as head of the transactional legal team at KPMG.

Jan Frey has been involved in the field of mergers and acquisitions for a long time. During his distinguished career he has gained extensive experience in providing legal services to Czech clients from both the private and public sectors. He has also worked on international projects with foreign investors. He is considered one of the most important domestic experts in the field of mergers and acquisitions, legal audits and due diligence processes.

“I have devoted my entire professional career to transactional law since graduating. Development in this particular legal sector is very dynamic and turbulent. If you want to navigate all the rules, you must resign yourself to continuous self-education. This is the only way to provide clients with true high-quality legal service. It is obvious that we agree on this with ROWAN LEGAL, which I see as the basis for productive and effective cooperation,” commented attorney Jan Frey, the “legal transfer of the year”.

M&A is an area of commercial law that deals primarily with the consolidation of companies and assets through legal and financial transactions. This includes sales, acquisitions, mergers, demergers, restructurings and other forms of operation involving companies of all sizes.

“Together with other ROWAN LEGAL partners, we see the need to respond to the increased demand for legal advice in the field of M&A. That is why we want to continue to build a high-quality team of experts and we consider Jan Frey to be a truly first-class addition. Large international corporations want to expand into new markets and we want to give them confidence that they have a reliable and trustworthy partner in the Czech Republic who will help them find the best solutions, combining legal and tax aspects. However, major Czech players are also very active in the M&A field and we offer them first-class services too, both locally and abroad,” said Michal Nulíček, partner at ROWAN LEGAL.

Jan Frey will strengthen the M&A team at ROWAN LEGAL from February this year. He joins the law firm, which is repeatedly recommended for M&A by Czech and foreign rankings, with a view to expanding its client base to include other major domestic and foreign companies. He will draw primarily on his extensive experience from his previous tenure at HAVEL & PARTNERS, where he spent more than ten years. During his tenure at HAVEL & PARTNERS, he worked his way up from associate to mergers and acquisitions partner.

After leaving HAVEL & PARTNERS, he worked for the international advisory group KPMG, where he led the transaction legal team at its Czech office. In his practice over the past years, he has worked with key players in the energy, pharmaceutical, automotive, machinery and food industries on deals with a total value exceeding CZK 100 billion. He has brokered transactions for both buyers and sellers. In addition, Jan lectures at the University of Economics in Prague. He is also the author of a number of professional texts and publications on M&A topics.

The team at ROWAN LEGAL will have 10 partners after Jan Frey joins. The firm employs more than 100 associates in the Prague and Brno offices, including more than 70 legal experts.
